Wedding guests reach Labuan Bajo through Komodo Airport (LBJ), fed by roughly six flights a day from Bali, three from Jakarta, and a daily Surabaya service — with the airport just ten to fifteen minutes from town. Route international guests through Bali or Jakarta, tell them to book the domestic leg early, and arrival day takes care of itself.
The Routes That Matter
| From | Airlines (2025–26) | Frequency | Flight time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Denpasar / Bali (DPS) | Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air, Indonesia AirAsia | ~6 daily | 1–1.5 hours |
| Jakarta (CGK) | Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air, Citilink, Indonesia AirAsia | ~3 daily | ~2.5 hours |
| Surabaya (SUB) | Super Air Jet | ~1 daily | 1.5–2 hours |
Schedules shift seasonally, but the shape holds: Bali is the flexible gateway, Jakarta the long-haul connector. Guests flying in from Europe, Australia, or North America connect once — in Bali or Jakarta — and are on Flores the same day or the next morning.
Briefing International Guests
- Send a routing note, not a booking link. One page: fly into DPS or CGK, add the LBJ leg on Garuda/Batik/Citilink/AirAsia, arrive at least one full day before the wedding.
- Recommend the Bali route for holiday-makers. Guests who want beach days on either side of the wedding get them free with the DPS connection.
- Warn about peak season. July–September flights fill early; guests booking late may find only dawn departures. Nudge everyone to book the domestic leg the week invitations land.
- Baggage rules differ on domestic legs. Domestic carry-on and checked allowances are tighter than international ones — relevant for anyone carrying formalwear, and covered in our packing guidance in the wedding FAQ.
Arrival Day, Solved
- Transfers are trivial: the airport sits a few kilometers from the harbor — hotels and operators run pickups, and taxis cover it in about fifteen minutes.
- Collect arrivals into one dinner. A first-night gathering at a harbor restaurant converts a trickle of tired travelers into a wedding party.
- Boarding day stays separate. If the celebration is afloat, never schedule guest arrivals and vessel boarding on the same morning — one delayed flight should not hold a charter at the dock.
Where This Sits in the Plan
Guest travel is the second thing to lock after the date — it drives room blocks, boarding lists, and the shape of the weekend. Our how to book a Labuan Bajo wedding guide sequences it against vendors and vessels, and our wedding packages include arrival-day coordination. Guests extending into a Flores holiday will find the region well mapped at Labuan Bajo Luxury.
Group Bookings: Worth It or Not?
Formal group fares on the domestic legs are less useful than couples expect — allocations are small, change rules rigid, and guests invariably want different dates. The pattern that works better: pick one recommended flight per direction (the mid-morning Bali service is the perennial favorite), publish it in the travel note as “the wedding flight,” and let guests book it individually. Half the list ends up on the same aircraft, the airport transfer consolidates itself, and nobody is locked into anyone else’s itinerary. For the core family, a travel agent holding seats on that one flight is worth the fee; for everyone else, freedom beats coordination.
When Flights Go Wrong
- Build the buffer into the invitation, not the airport: guests arriving one full day early turn a cancelled flight into an inconvenience instead of a crisis — domestic frequencies mean a same-day or next-morning rebooking almost always exists.
- Weather delays cluster in the wet season: December–March travelers should favor morning departures, which cancel less than afternoon ones.
- Keep one WhatsApp group for travel only, run by the planner: flight numbers in, pickup assignments out, and the couple never fields a delayed-baggage message during the rehearsal dinner.
Visas and Entry, Briefly
Most wedding guests enter Indonesia on the standard visa-on-arrival or e-VOA available to a long list of nationalities, arranged online before flying or at the international gateway on landing — passports need six months’ validity and an onward ticket. Put those two requirements in the travel note and link the official e-VOA site; the immigration queue in Bali moves faster for guests who arrive with the e-visa already on their phone.
